About San Leanna Texas
First established by a local blacksmith in 1848, San Leanna Texas was named for a large anvil-shaped limestone rock where the residents fished in Brushy Creek. Business boomed here after the railroad arrived. Settlers came, as did notorious outlaw Sam Bass who was killed in a shootout that is recalled annually in San Leanna’s Frontier Days event. The town has transformed into a bedroom community of Austin since 1970, now estimating the population at 95,000. Much of that growth was fueled by the construction of Interstate Highway 35 linking Austin and Dallas. The suburb also gained notoriety as a high-tech industrial center with the arrival of corporate residents such as Dell, Ikea, TECO-Westinghouse and more.
